Overweight and wrong food
Mind you, we speak of excess weight and not of obesity. For some patient several extra pounds are enough to get hypertension. Middle-aged men usually carry their excess weight around hips and waist (not to mention those moobies).
At the same time testosterone level may start declining. During the process certain zones of the body get additional fatty tissues, including the heart. Such state and age along with weakened heart increase the risk of high blood pressure.
Even a ten per cent decrease in weight can sometimes help to overcome hypertension. One of my acquaintances had extra 20 pounds compared with norm. You wouldn’t even notice them on his 6′4″ figure, but together with them he got rid of his problems with high blood pressure.
Obesity is not directly associated with hypertension, but is one of the risk factors. Obese people with escalated blood pressure should begin with losing their weight.
Overweight and diet problems are good friends. The only valid way to start losing weight is to watch what and how much you eat. Do not forget to add exercising to your balanced diet. For people with hypertension DASH diet is recommended. It is based on vegetables, grains, and fruits. High-sodium products and salt should be restricted.
Passivity
Passivity goes hand in hand with overweight as they are interrelated and contribute to each other. Overweight people are often inactive, so the risk of high blood pressure rises even further.
Even if everything is good with your weight, passivity can contribute to hypertension (do not forget that our weight is likely to increase over time). In any case, metabolism of passive people is slowed, body chemistry alters, and the heart weakens. The weaker is the heart, the harder it has to work increasing blood pressure.
Physical exercises are able to fix there problems and to lower blood pressure. In many situations, exercises together with added activities will be enough to treat hypertension. There is no need to go hiking. Start walking for an hour each day, and you will see the difference.
Breathing
Breathing is another important lifestyle factor correlated both with stress and high blood pressure. It can be a right tool to relax with a serious effect on hypertension.
In a state of stress, the person’s breathing becomes shallow and rapid. Muscles of the diaphragm become tensed and interfere with blood vessels. Additional load on the heart results in escalated blood pressure.
According to David Anderson, representing the National Institutes of Health, the so called “inhibitory breathing” is bad for the chemical balance of the blood, which becomes more acidic. Consequently, the kidneys have difficulties with taking out sodium adding to the increase of the blood pressure.
Slow breathing is a perfect way to fix up the blood pressure. Breathing in a certain way for 10 to 15 minutes each day can help to treat hypertension. Moreover, the effect of this natural method is cumulative. After the first several weeks it lasts for twenty-four hours.
Its mechanism is based on relaxing the chest and its muscles, while widened blood vessels decrease blood pressure. Blood chemistry is restored; sodium level returns back to its norm.
Without any side effects you have the result similar with beta-blockers and diuretics, which are a popular choice for treating hypertension. Only 15 minutes a day is enough for changing one of the key lifestyle components.
