Hypertension treated online? New approaches to old problems

hypertension
High blood pressure is traditionally associated with possible heart attacks and / or strokes together with some other serious health problems, including elevated cholesterol level and diabetes. Any of the conditions mentioned above may result either in untimely death or in numerous limitations to your lifestyle. The only way to avoid undesirable and dangerous consequences is to take the situation under proper control.

Often patients with diagnosed hypertension are prescribed certain treatment courses. It may be a single tablet to be taken daily or several drugs at once for lowering both high blood pressure and the level of cholesterol. When interacting with other medications that a person may find himself or herself in the need of, they are likely to cause various side effects. Among most well-known are loss of energy, cough, sexual disorders.

It should be noticed that even everyday medications do not guarantee normal level of blood pressure. That is why the task is set to optimize control of condition in people who live with elevated blood pressure. A research conducted not long ago analyzed the output from additional consultations of healthcare professionals.

A group of three thousand patients from the US aged from 25 to 75 was monitored by physicians with the help of Web applications and secured Web interface. The only problem of these people was lack of hypertension control. The group members were divided into three sub-groups: with standard monitoring procedures, with home control of blood pressure level and Web training, with home control, Web training and healthcare professional consultations online.

The results of the first two groups were mainly equal. No noticable changes in their condition and blood pressure level occured. With people who got consultations on a regular basis the situation differed completely. Nearly half of them were able to get their blood pressure back to the norm, while before the research their readings were constantly too high.

Seems like new technologies are able to improve the situation with the so called “silent killer”. Let us hope that we shall see more of such initiatives in the nearest future.
